How to Seal Your Driveway (DIY Steps)
- Check weather: Need 2 dry days with temps above 50°F. Avoid direct sun over 90°F (sealcoat dries too fast).
- Clean thoroughly: Power wash or scrub with TSP cleaner. Remove oil stains with degreaser. Let dry completely.
- Fill cracks: Use crack filler for any cracks ¼" or wider. Let cure 24 hours before sealing.
- Edge the perimeter: Use a brush to seal along edges, garage floor, and landscaping borders.
- Apply first coat: Pour sealcoat in a ribbon across the width and spread with a squeegee/brush in thin, even strokes.
- Apply second coat: Wait 4–8 hours (check product label), then apply perpendicular to the first coat direction.
- Cure: Keep traffic off for 24–48 hours. Full cure takes 30 days — avoid turning wheels in place during this time.
